Arnold Shapiro – Major, United States Air Force

From a contemporary press report:

Arnold Shapiro, 77, died on the morning of Monday, February 18, 2002 at his home on Isle of Palms. Private services, with full military honors, have been arranged at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Major Shapiro was a graduate of the University of Connecticut. He retired as a Major after 20 years service in the United States Air Force during which he served in World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam. He later retired from the Social Security Administration and in 1988 moved to the Isle of Palms.

A generous and loving husband, father, and brother, he will be greatly missed by his wife of 38 years, Vonna Laura Shapiro; his son and daughter-in-law, Captain Jack Davis (Jan) Shapiro, United States Army, of Savannah, Georgia; his daughter and son-in-law, Suzan (Keith) LoCascio of Greenville, South Carolina; and his sister and brother-in-law, Lillian (William) Bercowitz of Belleaire Bluffs, Florida.
