Cipriano Andrade – Rear Admiral, Unied States Navy

Cipriano Andrade was born at Tampico, Mexico, 1 September 1840, the son of Cipriano and Elizabeth (Edwards) Andrade. His early education was in the public and private schools in Philadelphia. Studied engineering at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia.

Connected with a practical course at Southwark Foundry in Philadelphia from 1858 to 1861. He married Annie A. Berry on 1 June 1870 and had at least one son.

The Admiral died on 18 June 1911 in South Norwalk, Connecticut, and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Andrade received an appointment to the Unied States Navy  from Pennsylvania 11 July 1861; Chief Engineer, 11 September 1881; Chief Engineer with relative rank of Commander, 12 Sep 1894; Chief Engineer with relative rank of Captain, 7 February 1898; Captain, 3 March 1899; placed on the retired list as Chief Engineer with rank of Rear Admiral, 1 July 1903.

He served in Civil War, then in various engineering assignments. He was a member, then President, Engineering Examination Board, October 1898-April 1899; member, Board of Examiners, Washington, D.C., June 1899-January 1900; on inspection duty, Bureau of Steam Engineering, Washington, D.C., September 1899-July 1901.
