graduate of West Point in 1937 and a veteran of both World War II and the
Korean Conflict.
He was serving with the United States Army in Germany when his command helicopter crashed and he was killed on October 10, 1961. He was born on June 19, 1913. He is buried in Section 3 of Arlington National
Cemetery along with his wife and his son.
The General's wife, Betty Spengler, passed away in 2005 and was laid to rest with him on 26 August 2005. Another officer, Henry
C. Spengler,
who was killed in action in World War I is buried nearly
and research continues with respect to him.
