John R. Abney was born on November 11, 1846 in Georgia. He enlisted in the 45th Georgia Infantry on March 4, 1862 in Monroe County, Georgia. He was wounded on July 30, 1864 at Petersburg,
Virginia, captured on March 25, 1865 at Petersburg, and died on April 7,
1865 at Washington, D.C.
