Henry Peter Meisinger – Captain, United States Marine Corps

H. Peter Meisinger, 77, who retired in the mid-1980s as president of a communications electronics firm, Versitron Inc., died of lung cancer June 16, 1998 at his home in Vienna, Virginia.

He and a partner began the firm, which did work in fiber optics and defense communications, in 1958. Earlier, he was president of the electronics group of Keene Corp., and president of the Laboratory of Electronic Engineering.

Mr. Meisinger designed medical equipment, phonographs, radio transmitters, tape recorders, broadcast control equipment and other devices, and wrote technical papers.

He was born in New York and raised in Washington, where he graduated from Central High School. He served in the Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II and in Korea during the Korean War. He was awarded a Purple Heart.

He began his career before the war as an engineer at radio station WINX. He was later an engineer with the recording lab at the Library of Congress and chief engineer of the Interior Department's recording facility and at the U.S. Recording Co., a government contractor.

After he retired, Mr. Meisinger was a consultant and a director of Sovran/D.C. National Bank.

In the Washington area, he was chairman of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Audio Engineering Society and president of the Independent Telephone Pioneers Association. He was a director of the Central High School Alumni Association.

His first wife, Jeanne Meisinger, died in 1961. His second marriage, to Catherine Meisinger, ended in divorce.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Susan Cushing Meisinger of Vienna; two sons from his first marriage, Daniel C. Meisinger of Falls Church and Mark C. Meisinger of Centreville; a daughter from his second marriage, Mary Meisinger Dowling of Laurel; four stepchildren, Susan Webb Kirk of Chevy Chase, Richard C. Webb of Sterling, Sonja Bollech Courtney of Stafford, Va., and John G. Bollech of Washington; and 10 grandchildren.

Of Vienna, VA, on Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at his residence. Beloved husband of Susan Cushing Meisinger; father of Daniel C. Meisinger, Mark C. Meisinger and Mary Meisinger Dowling; step-father of Susan Webb Kirk, Richard C. Webb, Sonja Bollech Courtney and John Gregory Bollech; grandfather of Caitlan, Brian, Christopher, Eric, Andrew, Alissa, Rebecca, David, Jason and Ashley. He was preceded in death by a son, Shannon Peter Meisinger and a step-son, Claude Anderson Webb, III. Interment Arlington National Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Lombardi Cancer Center, Research Building, Room E-501, 3970 Reservoir Rd., NW, Washington, DC 20007.
