On Monday, May 4, 1998, MALVERN R. WHITAKER, LTC, USA (Ret.), of Irving, Texas, formerly of Williamsburg, Virginia, died. A 30 year veteran, he was the recipient of the following commendations: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Air Medal, Army Commendation, Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct, Navy Good Conduct, National Defense Service, World War II Victory, Asia Pacific Campaign, American Campaign, Army Occupation, Vietnam Campaign, Vietnam Service and Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, National Republican Committee and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. LTC Whitaker is survived by his children, John
Marshall Whitaker, Apple Valley, CA, Kevin Michael Whitaker, Nicaragua,
and Patricia Priesing, Pennington, NJ; grandchildren, Carrie, Stuart, Thomas,
Katie and Daniel; and brother, John Emery Whitaker, Augusta, GA. Service,
9 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 1998 at Fort Myer Chapel, Arlington, VA. Interment
to follow at Arlington National Cemetery. Family suggests memorial contributions
to the American Heart Association.
