| The father of General
Jonathan Mayhew Wainwright IV, he was a graduate of West Point in June
1875. He was born in Philadelphia, May 18, 1852.
He fought Indians on the Western Frontier. Led a cavalry squadron
in the Battle of Santiago in the Spanish-American War and was killed-in-action
on November 19, 1902, in the Philippine Insurrection.
His wife, Josephine Serrell Wainwright, is buried with him. They
are buried next to their son in Section 1 of Arlington National Cemetery.
