Appointed from Pennsylvania, Cadet, United States Military Academy, 1 September 1862 (28) ; Commissioned Second Lieutenant, 4th United States Artillery, 17 June 1867 First Lieutenant, 22 August 1871 Regimental Quartermaster, 9 December 1887 to 24 January 1891 Captain, 24 January 1891; Transferred to the Quartermaster Department, 20 April 1892 Major, Quartermaster of United States Volunteers, 12 May 1898 Major, Quartermaster, United States Army, 1 November 1900. Colonel Jones died in 1922 and was buried under the name "Sam R. Jones" in Section 1, Grave 36, Arlington National Cemetery. The Colonel's son, Ivens Jones, died in a polo accident in 1923, was originally buried in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and was reinterred in Section 9, Grave 5869 on 4 November 1941. JONES, SAMUEL R
