PRATT, WILLIAM C. (Age 79)
Of Palm City, Florida, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at his residence. Born in New York City, NY, he had resided in the Stuart/Palm City area for the past 25 years, having moved to Florida from Hingham, Massachusetts. He retired from active duty on July 31, 1969, after 27 years of service. His combat duty included service in WWII as a B-17 bombardier/navigator, and in Korea as a B-29 pilot. His commendations included the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal with Four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal and the Army Commendation Ribbon. He graduated from Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1962, the Defense Management Systems Course in 1968, and Harvard University, Advanced Management Program in 1965. After his retirement from active duty, he was Vice President, Administration for Honeywell Corp. from 1969 to 1974. He was a member and supporter of St. Joseph's Catholic Church (and School), a board member of Molly's House, Y.M.C.A. of Martin County, and the Martin Memorial Foundation, all in Stuart, Florida. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine B., and his son, William C. Pratt, Jr. He is survived by four sons, Col. Thomas M. (Kathleen) Pratt, USAF (Ret.) of Palm City, FL, Theodore C. (Margaret) Pratt of Chapel Hill, NC, Col. Andrew C. (Frances) Pratt of Tucson, AZ, and James E. (Denise) Pratt of Dayton, OH; daughter, Susan P. (Timothy) Manner of Luray, VA; sister, Catherine P. VanBrocklin of Rochester, NY; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Friends may visit on Monday, April 17, 6 to 8 p.m. in the chapel at FOREST HILLS FUNERAL HOME, Palm City, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday, April 18, 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Stuart, FL. Interment, with Full Military Honors, will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. In lieu of other remembrances, donations can be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church and School, 1200 E. 10th St., Stuart, FL 34996, or Y.M.C.A. of Martin County, 1700 SE Monterey Rd., Stuart, FL 34996.
