Lester “John” Holmes Jr. , 51, 3609 Parliament Lane, Martinez, died Saturday, December 11, 1982, at his residence.

The Holy Rosary will be said at 7 pm today at Poteet Funeral Home, Green Street, with Rev Walter DiFrancesco officiating. Burial will be at 2pm Monday in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington Virginia.

Major Holmes was a native of Uvalda Georgia, and a retired Major in the U.S. Army with 20 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Simone LeGuernic Holmes; three daughters – Debra Holmes, Michelle Wilmer and Mary Holmes, Martinez; five sisters – Sarah Mills and Cora Thompson Pahakie, Florida, Irene Anderson Dade City Florida, Mary Gaskins Jacksonville Florida and Thelma O' Connor Naples Florida; and a brother – Charles Holmes Dade City Florida.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

He had lived in Martinez for the past 12 years, and was a member of the St Teresa Catholic Church.

Mrs. Simone C. Holmes, 71, of Martinez, died Wednesday, December 2, 1998, at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Platt's Funeral Home, Belair Road, with the Rev. Thomas Peyton officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

Mrs. Holmes, a native of Paris, was a homemaker and a survivor of Dachau Concentration Camp during World War II. She was a founding member of St. Teresa Catholic Church.

The family said “She was loving, giving and the best `Nana' in the world. Her smile was that of an angel. She loved everyone, and everyone loved her.”

Survivors include three daughters, Deborah Simone Holmes, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Michelle Holmes Wilmer, Martinez, and Mary Holmes Lamb, Appling; a brother, Roger LeGuernic, France; a sister, Susanne LeGuernic, France; and five grandchildren.
