Heavy
snows in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area in early February 2010 caused
Arlington National
Cemetery
to be closed to the public over the weekend of 6 and 7 February and during
the week
on
Monday through Thursday, 8-11 February 2011.
Funerals
took place as scheduled on Monday through Wednesday, but were in doubt
for Thursday, as
additional
heavy snowfall took place on Wedneday.
Throughout
the storms, the Tomb Guards of the Third United States Infantry (The Old
Guard)
at
the Tomb of the Unknowns maintained their vigil, as they always do, keeping
guard over
the
unknowns at rest there.
