Christian M. Biersack, 77, who served in the Army Corps of Engineers for nearly 30 years before retiring in 1972 as a Colonel, died of cardiac arrest April 18, 1999, at his home in Alexandria, Virginia. Colonel Biersack, who was commissioned in 1943, held an engineering command in Thailand from 1969 to 1971. He retired from active duty as plans division chief in the office of the Army Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics. His decorations included the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal. He remained a resident of the Washington area while serving as gas turbines manager in the power generation division of Consolidated Edison Co. in New York from 1972 to 1987. He then was a Washington consultant until retiring altogether in 1989. Colonel Biersack, who was born in New York, graduated from the University of Maryland and received a master's degree in business administration from Northeastern University. He was a member of the Society of American Military Engineers and the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) Association. His first wife, Gerta Finsterwalder Biersack,
to whom he was married for 41 years, died in 1989. Survivors include his
wife, Waltraut Beuck-Biersack of Bad Homburg, Germany; three children from
his first marriage, Carl W., Walter M. and Air Force Lieutenant Colonel
Catherine Biersack, all of Alexandria; and five grandchildren.
