Evelyn A. Kelly – Colonel, United States Air Force

Funeral services for retired Colonel Evelyn A. Kelly, 86, of Carlisle and St. Augustine, Florida, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the St. John’s Episcopal Church, On The Square in Carlisle.

She died Saturday, April 19, 2003, in the Church of God Home, Carlisle.

Born July 7, 1916, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late John and Ellen Neary Kelly.

She was a 1934 graduate of the Carlisle High School and a 1938 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. She also graduated from the Germantown Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia. She served in the Army and was retired from the Air Force with 28 years of service. She entered the service at Walter Reed Army Hospital and served during World War II and the Korean conflict as an administrative nurse and flight nurse in seven military hospital commands, retiring as a full Colonel.

She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Carlisle; American Legion Post 101, Carlisle; the Retired Officers Association and the Aeronautical Space Medical Association.

She is survived by several cousins and her longtime friend, retired Lieutenant Colonel Gladys I. Cochran of Carlisle.

The Rev. Cannon Mark A. Scheneman will officiate at services. Burial will be in the Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia; the time and day will be announced at a later date. There will be no viewing or visitation.

Arrangements are being handled by Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle.
