Edward Porter Alexander III – First Lieutenant, United States Army

This is the grandson of Confederate States of America Colonel Edward Porter Alexander, commander of Artillery in the Army of Northern Virginia. The grandfather was the artillery commander at the Battle of Gettysburg. The grandson was killed in action in France during World War I. He was originally buried in France and was not returned home for burial in Arlington National Cemetery until  1922.
