Frank Matteson Bostwick – Commodore, United States Navy

Born: Janesville, Wisconsin, April 13, 1857. Graduated US Naval Academy,1877.  Married: Elvira (Gregg) Hartwell, Aug 14, 1879. Promoted through the various grades to Captain, 1909, retired at his own request, rank of Commodore, June 30, 1910.

Served on Pacific station and US Navy Yard, Mare Island, California, 1877-86, 1889-98, Asiatic station, 1886-89. USS Charleston during Spanish-American War, 1898, USS Charleston, USS Bennington and USS Marietta, Philippine station, 1898-1901. Navigator and later First Lieutenant, USS Oregon, March-October 1901. Commander, USS Nipsic, October 1901-May 1904, USS Philadelphia, May-August 1904, USS Eagle, September 1904-September 1906. Lighthouse inspector, 10th Distrist, September 1906-June 1908. Commander USS Buffalo, June 1908-April 1909. Captain of yard, US Navy Yard, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, June 1909-July 1910. Spanish and Philippine Campaign medals. Episcopalian. Address: Care of Franklin National Bank, Philadelphia. Died: December 20, 1945. Buried next to Robert Bostwick Carney and family. Possibly related. Buried in Section 2 of Arlington National Cemetery.

His wife, Elvira Gregg Hartwell Bostwick, 1830-1912, is buried with him.
