Grover C. Williams, Jr. – Colonel, United States Marine Corps

 G. C. Williams, Jr., Colonel, USMC (Retired)  of Williamsburg, VA, beloved husband of Mary Frances Matthews Williams, died at home on September 25, 2000. He was 78.

Colonel Williams was born in Baskerville, Virginia, and was a graduate of Boydton High School. Following graduation from Virginia Military Institute in May 1942, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in the Pacific in WWII and the Korean War.

Among numerous medals and commendations were the Bronze Star, Navy Commendation Medal, and The Legion of Merit.

In addition, Colonel Williams taught ROTC at the University of Michigan. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1968.

After retirement from the Marine Corps, Col. Williams was employed by Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance Company until retirement in 1983. He was a member of Bruton Parish Church, Crown Colony Club, Williamsburg Country Club, and South Hill, Virginia Masonic Lodge No. 297, AF&AM;

He is also survived by two daughters, Kathy Blitch and her husband, Dr. James Blitch, of Reston, VA, and Susan Wagoner of Midlothian, VA; his sister, Elizabeth W. Musick of Richmond, VA; three grandsons, William J. Wagoner, Jr., Carter W. Blitch and Andrew B. Blitch; and one great-grandson, Taylor W. Blitch. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the V.M.I. Foundation, Box 932, Lexington, VA 24450, or the American Institute for Cancer Research, or the Hospice Support Care of Williamsburg, 312 Waller Mill Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23185.
