In the 1880 Federal Soundex Census, James was listed as a head of household June 1880 in Rockfish, Nelson County, Virgina.In the 1900 Federal Soundex Census, James was listed as a head of household June 1900 in Fayette County, West Virginia.

James was a Sergeant-Major in the 18th Virginia Cavalry of the Confederate Army. “Major Imboden”, as he was called, survived his wife some years. He is buried in the Confederate Circle at the Arlington National Cemetery. His wife was first buried in Fairfax County, Virginia and after James death, her remains were reintured in a double grave with her husband. He was farmer, owning and living on several different farms at different locations in Virginia.

It appears Sarah may never have married. If she did, she changed her name back to Imboden after a divorce or her husbands death. The social security records show a Sarah Imboden born on this same date as having collected payments.

WALTER M. was born in Mendota, Bristol County, Virginia, August 31, 1888. Walter died at age unknown. Walter was listed as James Adam Imboden's son in the 1900 Federal Soundex Census in Fayette County, West Virginia.
