During his visit to the United States in April 2007 to meet with President George W. Bush, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also visited Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery in order to pay tribute to those service members who gave their lives in the war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. He then laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
