He was killed-in-action in the terrorist bombing of the Marine Barracks at Beirut, Lebanon, on October 23, 1983. He was returned to the United States for burial in Arlington National Cemetery.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
