Lewis J. Zilka – Lieutenant Colonel, United States Marine Corps

Lieuenant Colonel Lewis J. Zilka, United States Marine Corps, Retired, age 66, died Thursday, January 6, 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Gale Jackman of Albuquerque; son, Daniel Zilka; daughter, Cathy Nusbaum; grandchildren, L. Parker and Pierce Daniel Nusbaum all of Portland, Oregon; the mother of his children, JoLee McNamara of Portland, Oregon; brother, David Zilka of Portland, Oregon; and 14 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Jones; his father, Henry J. Zilka; and his brothers, James and Thomas Zilka.

Colonel Lewis Zilka served two tours in Vietnam and over 25 years service to his country. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a Memorial Service at Bethel United Methodist Church in Edgewood, Saturday, January 15, 2000 at 9:00 a.m. Final disposition will be burial at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Church of the Holy Cross building fund, P.O. Box 1090, Edgewood, New Mexico 87015.
