Lieutenant Colonel Sumner H. Lincoln went out with the regiment as Private in 1861, was appointed Adjutant in February 1863, was wounded in the Wilderness and again at Winchester, was appointed Major in October 1864, and Lieutenant Colonel in January 1865. He was commissioned as Colonel by the Governor of Vermont) June 4th, 1865, but was mustered out as Lieutenant Colonel.
